Police have charged a man following a fatal shooting in the state’s north on Wednesday morning.
Emergency services were called to a property on Rotherwood Road, Cassilis, about 8.50am (8 October), after reports a man had been shot while hunting.
Paramedics arrived to find a 71-year-old man with a gunshot wound. Despite efforts to assist, he was declared deceased at the scene.
Detectives from the Hunter Valley Police District established a crime scene and began investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
A 63-year-old man was later arrested and taken to Muswellbrook Police Station, where he was charged with manslaughter and firing a firearm in a manner likely to injure persons or property.
He was refused bail and is set to appear before the Local Bail Division – Court 2 on Thursday, 9 October 2025.
