A man has died after being attacked by a shark off Rottnest Island in Western Australia.
Emergency services were called to Geordie Bay on Saturday morning following reports a man in his 30s had been bitten while in the water at Horseshoe Reef on the island’s north side.
The man was brought back to shore by boat, where paramedics and rescue crews attempted to save him. The RAC rescue helicopter was also deployed to the scene; however, the man could not be revived.
WA Police confirmed a report will be prepared for the Coroner.
Authorities have urged swimmers and visitors to exercise caution in the area following reports of a large shark sighting around the time of the attack.
Rottnest Island, located off the coast of Perth, is a major tourist destination popular for swimming, snorkelling and boating activities.
