Emergency services were called to a rural property near Maitland in the Hunter Valley around 1:45pm on Saturday, 4 October, following reports that a man had been seriously injured by a horse. The Westpac Rescue Helicopter was tasked by NSW Ambulance to attend the scene, where a man in his 50s was found suffering from significant head injuries after reportedly being kicked by the animal.
