Man Charged After Drugs, Firearms and Cash Seized in Hamilton
A 28-year-old man has been charged with multiple drug and firearms offences following a dramatic arrest in Hamilton overnight.
Just after 10.15pm on Thursday (25 September 2025), police were called to a unit on Beaumont Street after reports a man had been seen with a firearm.
When officers entered the property, the man allegedly fled from a second-storey balcony into a laneway but was arrested shortly after.
Police allegedly recovered a knife from the man, while a rifle and a travel bag containing drugs, cash and ammunition were found nearby. A further search of the unit uncovered more drugs, ammunition and $8,500 in cash.
In total, police seized 1.17kg of cannabis, 15.9g of methamphetamine, 58.2g of cocaine, 68 bullets and $8,500 cash.
The man was taken to Newcastle Police Station and charged with nine offences, including supply of prohibited drugs, firearm and ammunition offences, dealing with the proceeds of crime, and custody of a knife in a public place.
He was refused bail and appeared before Bail Court today (Friday 26 September 2025), where bail was formally denied. He is due to face Newcastle Local Court on Thursday 16 October 2025.
