Mayor Jay Suvaal: Cessnock Councillors Felt Unsafe in Intense Meeting

Mayor Jay Suvaal revealed Councillors Feared for Their Lives in Cessnock Smart Cities Meeting

Things got heated at a recent council meeting in Cessnock, where the topic of smart cities was on the agenda. But it wasn’t just the discussion that was hot – tensions were rising and safety concerns were expressed by councillors who feared for their lives, as a large crowd filled the public gallery in opposition to Smart Cities and 15 Minute Cities.

Mayor Jay Suvaal himself spoke to the ABC 7:30 program about the whst the ABC described as a disturbing trend of freedom groups targeting local councils across the country. He said that a large number of people in the room were “a little bit agitated”, and were there to push their own agenda. They were closely associated with a group called My Place, which was born out of the freedom movement during Covid-19 lockdowns.

But what really had councillors on edge was the possibility of violence. One female councillor reportedly left the room in search of possible escape routes, fearing that the crowd could turn violent at any moment.

The tension was only heightened by the recent accusations against Councillor Jessica Jurd, who was accused of having links to My Place. Jurd denies any such links, but the controversy only adds fuel to the fire.

My Place has been linked to controversial figure Riccardo Bosi, who has publicly called for political rivals to be hung for their involvement in Covid-19. He has even appeared on The Alex Jones Show, a show that recently sued for billions in what Alex Jones described as a show trial for questioning whether the children who died in the Sandy Hook school shooting were crisis actors.

The situation in Cessnock highlights the growing tensions around issues such as Smart Cities and Covid-19 restrictions. Freedom groups are becoming more vocal in their opposition, putting pressure on local councils and causing concern for the safety of councillors.

As the debate continues, it’s important that all parties remain calm and open to constructive dialogue. The safety of our communities should be our top priority.
