Police have launched an urgent appeal to identify a man after a terrifying alleged incident at a busy Newcastle intersection involving a meat cleaver.
Just after 7pm on Wednesday, 10 December 2025, a 20-year-old man was stopped at traffic lights on Railway Street at the intersection of Hunter Street when the situation allegedly turned frightening.
Police say an unknown man suddenly entered the vehicle and threatened the young driver with a meat cleaver before abruptly exiting the car and fleeing the scene. The driver was left shaken but thankfully uninjured.
As investigations continue, police have released CCTV images of a man they believe may be able to assist with inquiries. Images of the man are circulating on social media as officers urge the public to come forward.
The man is described as being in his 20s, of fair complexion, wearing a black T-shirt, grey shorts, white shoes and a black cap. He was also carrying a small dark backpack at the time.
