The Newcastle Herald has caved to outrage yet again, pulling an advertisement from Clive Palmer’s Trumpet of Patriots that stated a simple biological fact—there are only two genders. This wasn’t some radical, hate-fueled message; it was a statement that reflects mainstream scientific understanding. Yet, in today’s political climate, even acknowledging basic biology is enough to send activists into a frenzy.
Newcastle’s first trans councillor, Paige Johnson, wasted no time in denouncing the ad, calling it “vile and transphobic” and linking it to “extremist and fascist ideology.” Strong words for something as benign as a statement on biological reality. But this is the new strategy: label any dissenting opinion as “hate speech” and demand it be erased from existence.
Johnson, along with the Hunter Gender Alliance, is not just demanding an apology from the Newcastle Herald. They want the paper to donate the ad revenue to pro-trans activist groups and permanently ban all ads from the Trumpet of Patriots. That’s right—those who champion “inclusivity” want to silence any perspective that doesn’t conform to their ideology.
This isn’t about tolerance or respect. It’s about control. It’s about forcing total ideological submission under the guise of “progress.” The moment someone expresses a view that contradicts their worldview, the response isn’t debate—it’s demands for censorship, boycotts, and public shaming.
Here’s the truth: gender dysphoria exists, and people have the right to express themselves however they choose. If someone wants to wear makeup, change their name, and identify as the opposite gender, that’s their choice. But what they don’t have the right to do is force the rest of society to deny reality or silence people who disagree.
Let’s get one thing straight: biology is not bigotry. Sex is determined at birth—male or female. Social gender norms may evolve, but the reality of biological sex does not. And when it comes to competitive sports, the difference between biological males and females is undeniable. A male athlete, regardless of how they identify, has inherent physiological advantages over female competitors. Pretending otherwise isn’t progressive—it’s dishonest.
The Newcastle Herald’s decision to remove the ad sets a dangerous precedent. If major newspapers cave to ideological pressure at every turn, we no longer have a free press—we have a controlled one. If activists can silence basic biological truths today, what will they demand tomorrow?
