News Alert: Man Charged in Alleged Armed Robbery in Newcastle
A 37-year-old man has been charged following an alleged armed robbery that occurred at a convenient store on Hunter Street, Newcastle.
Police responded to reports of a man threatening a store worker with a knife and stealing cash around 11am on Sunday, April 23, 2023. The man was also alleged to have attempted to rob another business on Hunter Street, but was unsuccessful. Police arrested the suspect on Wharf Road, Newcastle around 12:30pm on the same day. He has been charged with robbery armed with offensive weapon and attempted robbery with offensive weapon, and has been refused bail.
The man is scheduled to appear in Newcastle Local Court today, Monday, April 24, 2023. Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident and believe the two incidents may be linked.
