Teenage Boy Arrested for Reckless Motorbike Ride and Shop Collision in Gateshead
Gateshead, May 24, 2023 – A teenage boy has been apprehended by authorities today after an incident involving the alleged reckless operation of an unregistered motorbike on a footpath near pedestrians. The dramatic event unfolded on the Pacific Highway in Gateshead earlier this morning.
At approximately 8:50 am, concerned citizens alerted the police about pedestrians being forced to move out of the path of a motorbike dangerously navigating the footpath. Responding swiftly to the call, law enforcement officers from the Lake Macquarie Police District joined forces with Operation Utah and Raptor North Traffic & Highway Patrol to search for the rider.
Just over an hour later, at 10:15 am, police officers reportedly spotted the motorbike in question continuing its perilous journey amidst pedestrians along the Pacific Highway in Charlestown. Taking immediate action, authorities pursued the rider, who ultimately crashed into the counter of a local sporting goods store on the Pacific Highway.
The daring chase came to an end as law enforcement successfully apprehended the 14-year-old suspect at the scene. Subsequently, he was transported to Charlestown Police Station for processing. The teenager now faces a total of six charges, including driving recklessly or furiously, operating an unregistered motor vehicle, driving without a license, and obstructing or resisting a police officer in the line of duty.
Following his arrest, the 14-year-old was granted strict conditional bail and is scheduled to appear before a Children’s Court on Monday, July 10, 2023.
