The NSW Police Force has accepted all 29 recommendations from an Independent Cultural Review aimed at improving workplace culture across the organisation.
Released on Thursday, the review examined leadership, diversity and inclusion, recruitment and promotion processes, and systems for preventing and responding to harmful workplace behaviours. More than 5,000 current and former staff participated through interviews, surveys, written submissions and group discussions. (NSW Police)
The review identified concerns around leadership capability, workplace behaviour, confidence in reporting issues, workforce flexibility, and the impact of policing on staff wellbeing and retention. (NSW Police)
NSW Police Commissioner Mal Lanyon said the findings provide an important opportunity to strengthen the organisation and drive ongoing improvement. He confirmed a detailed implementation plan is being developed and will be overseen by an independent Audit and Risk Committee. (NSW Police)
Several initiatives are already underway, including reviews of recruitment and promotion processes, the development of a leadership framework, programs aimed at addressing harmful workplace behaviours, and continued investment in mental health and critical incident support. (NSW Police)
Police Minister Yasmin Catley welcomed the decision to adopt all recommendations, describing it as an opportunity to strengthen police culture and improve conditions for officers and staff across the state. (NSW Police)
The review was commissioned in 2024 by former NSW Police Commissioner Karen Webb and conducted by former Victorian Equal Opportunity and Human Rights Commissioner Kristen Hilton. (NSW Police)
