Residents in parts of the Hunter are being urged to stay alert, with the NSW State Emergency Service (SES) issuing a flood watch for areas along the Wollombi Brook, including Bulga and Wollombi.

Authorities say minor flooding may develop from Thursday into Friday as a weather system brings widespread rain and thunderstorms across northern and eastern New South Wales.

The Bureau of Meteorology reports a broad trough over the state is expected to produce moderate to heavy rainfall, with a developing low pressure system increasing the risk of intense falls across the Hunter and southern Mid North Coast from late Thursday.

While forecasting remains uncertain, officials warn that conditions could change quickly depending on where the heaviest rain develops.

If flooding occurs, low-lying areas of Bulga and Wollombi, as well as local roads and causeways, may be impacted by dangerous floodwaters.

The SES is advising residents in affected areas to stay informed, monitor official warnings, and keep up to date via the Bureau of Meteorology, NSW SES social media channels, and local ABC radio broadcasts.

Residents are also encouraged to download the Hazards Near Me app and set up watch zones to receive real-time alerts.

For emergency assistance during floods, storms or tsunami events, call the NSW SES on 132 500. In life-threatening situations, call Triple Zero (000).

Authorities say the flood watch will be updated as weather conditions develop over the coming days.
