A pedestrian has died following a crash in Sandgate, near Newcastle, on Monday morning.
About 9.10am (Monday 25 May 2026), emergency services were called to Maitland Road, Sandgate, after reports a pedestrian had been struck by a truck.
Officers from the Newcastle City Police District attended the scene, where they were told the pedestrian was hit by a heavy vehicle.
The man was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to John Hunter Hospital in a critical condition. He later died in hospital. He is yet to be formally identified.
The truck driver, a 42-year-old man, was not physically injured but was also taken to John Hunter Hospital for mandatory testing.
A crime scene has been established and investigations into the circumstances of the crash are continuing.
