MHV NEWS understands a person of interest has been taken into custody as police continue to investigate the death of a woman found inside a Kearsley home on Friday night.
Emergency services were called to Ellalong Street, near Cessnock, just after 7.30pm following reports of a domestic incident. When officers arrived, they located the body of a woman believed to be in her 30s.
A major investigation was launched, with detectives from the Hunter Valley Police District and the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad leading the inquiry.
A source has told MHV News that a person of interest has been taken into custody and is assisting police with their inquiries. It is not yet clear whether the person detained is Christopher James McLaughney, who was earlier named as wanted by police.
Police have not yet issued a formal statement regarding the arrest, and inquiries remain ongoing.
