Two men have been charged following a violent late-night incident in Wyong that allegedly saw a police officer struck by a vehicle during an attempted stop of a stolen van.
About 11.25pm on Saturday, 20 June 2026, officers attached to Tuggerah Lakes Highway Patrol allegedly observed a white Mercedes Sprinter van being driven erratically through residential streets in Wyong. The vehicle was also displaying number plates that did not match the registration.
Police will allege the van had been stolen during a break and enter at a commercial premises in Wyong two days earlier.
Officers attempted to stop the vehicle on Howarth Street, where it is alleged the driver reversed into a marked Highway Patrol car, disabling it, before attempting to flee the scene.
During the incident, a male Senior Constable was allegedly struck by the vehicle and forced backwards through a fence.
The van then became bogged in a ditch, bringing the pursuit to an end and allowing police to arrest both occupants.
A search of the pair allegedly uncovered methylamphetamine on both men, while a large knife was also allegedly found in the possession of the passenger.
A 28-year-old Guildford man was charged with nine offences including drive conveyance taken without consent of owner, use weapon to prevent lawful detention, drive manner dangerous, deemed supply prohibited drug, never licensed person drive on road, use unauthorised number plates, exceed speed by more than 20km/h, and malicious damage.
A 30-year-old Wyong man was charged with possession of a prohibited drug and possession of a knife.
The driver was refused bail, while the passenger was granted strict conditional bail. Both are due to appear before Wyong Local Court at later dates.
Investigations into the original break and enter remain ongoing.
