Political Bombshell: One Nation Stuns Coalition In Shock Regional Election Upset

One Nation has delivered a major political upset, with candidate David Farley projected to seize the federal seat of Farrer from the Liberal-National Coalition after more than two decades of conservative control.

The shock result is sending ripples through Australian politics, with early counting showing strong swings toward One Nation across regional communities frustrated by rising living costs, water policy disputes, immigration concerns and growing anger at major parties.

The seat had long been considered safe territory for the Coalition and was previously held by former Liberal leader Sussan Ley since 2001.

Farley, a Narrandera agribusiness figure and chair of Speak Up 4 Water, built his campaign around regional issues and dissatisfaction with Canberra decision-making. Support surged throughout the campaign as voters voiced concerns over net zero policies, farming pressures and regional infrastructure.

Political analysts are describing the result as one of the most significant by-election swings in recent years and a warning sign for both major parties ahead of future elections.

If officially confirmed, the win would hand One Nation its first elected seat in the House of Representatives, marking a historic breakthrough for the party in federal politics.
