A large-scale search is underway after a woman was reported missing in the surf at Newcastle Beach early this morning.
Emergency services were called to Shortland Esplanade around 4:35am following reports that a woman had entered the water approximately ten minutes earlier and failed to return.
Officers from Newcastle City Police District, along with the Marine Area Command, Marine Rescue, and the Westpac Rescue Helicopter, have launched a multi-agency search operation.
The woman was last seen wearing a pink top, black pants, and no shoes.
Police are appealing for anyone with information that may assist in locating the woman to contact Newcastle Police Station or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
