Newcastle, NSW – A 43-year-old man has been charged over a terrifying shooting incident that rocked an Elermore Vale neighborhood last month.
Gunshots rang out around 4:30 AM on January 29, with bullets slamming into a home and a vehicle on Lake Road. Luckily, no one was injured.
Newcastle City Detectives launched Strike Force Balgo to track down the shooter, and after weeks of intense investigations, they swooped on the suspect yesterday afternoon (Thursday, February 6).
In a dramatic turn, police raided a Bar Beach home, uncovering a stash of illegal weapons, including two rifles, two pistols, a gel blaster machine gun, firearm parts, ammunition, and even a NSW Police-issued baseball cap. A silver Holden Commodore Utility was also seized for forensic examination.
The man now faces a whopping 15 charges, including firing a gun at a home with disregard for safety, multiple firearm offences, possessing a prohibited drug, and even impersonating a police officer.
He was denied bail and will front Newcastle Local Court today (Friday, February 7).
