Sink hole opens up at Wallsend property.

About 3:10pm on Wednesday 22nd February 2023, Wallsend Fire and Rescue were called to Kenrick Street in Wallsend after reports of a large sinkhole appearing outside a residential property.

Shortly after crews arrived locating a large sinkhole which was still actively collapsing from underneath.

Crews advised City of Newcastle, Hunter Water and Subsidence Advisory NSW who arrived shortly after to render the area safe. Fire and Rescue conducted a site hand-over to the Subsidence Advisory.

With Wallsend being an old Colliery in the 1860s, this is a common occurrence after a heavy downpour. If you locate a sinkhole, avoid the area and contact Triple Zero (000)
