A 16-year-old boy has been charged following a serious crash in Maitland on Tuesday, which left a 58-year-old man with significant injuries.
Around 6:15 AM on November 5, emergency services responded to a collision on The Long Bridge, High Street, Maitland, involving a white Toyota Hilux and a motorcycle. Paramedics treated the motorcycle rider, a man in his late 50s, on-site before airlifting him to John Hunter Hospital, where he remains in serious condition.
Port Stephens-Hunter Police officers arrested the alleged driver of the Hilux, a teenage boy, near the crash scene. He was taken to the hospital under police supervision for medical assessment and mandatory testing.

A crime scene was established, and the Crash Investigation Unit (CIU) began investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision.
On Wednesday morning, officers attended the hospital and charged the teenager with multiple offenses, including negligent driving, driving without consent, reckless driving, and dangerous driving causing grievous bodily harm. Additional charges included causing bodily harm by misconduct and failing to assist after a vehicle impact.
The boy was refused bail and appeared in children’s court via a bedside hearing today.
