Two teenagers have been charged following a fire at a school in West Kempsey on the NSW north coast.
According to police, the incident occurred between 2:00 AM and 5:30 AM today when two boys, aged 13 and 14, allegedly broke into a school on Broughton Street. The teens reportedly entered several buildings, stealing items and causing significant property damage.
Officers from the Richmond Police District were alerted just before 6:00 AM and located the two boys nearby. They were arrested and taken to Kempsey Police Station, where they were charged with multiple offenses, including:
- Aggravated break and enter,
- Committing a serious indictable offense,
- Two counts of damage or destruction of property, and
- Intentionally marking premises without consent.
The damage to the school is estimated to exceed $30,000. Both teenagers were granted bail and are set to appear in a children’s court on Wednesday, 5 February 2025.
