Motorists are being urged to take extra care on local roads today, with multiple temporary road closures and hazardous conditions reported across the Cessnock area due to wet weather.

Cessnock City Council has advised that the following roads are currently closed:

• Old North Road, Rothbury — between Wine Country Drive and Sweetwater Road
• Alexandra Street, Kurri Kurri — between Northcote Street and Railway Parade

In addition, water is currently over the road at Wermol Street, Kurri Kurri.

Drivers are being reminded to slow down, drive to conditions, and never attempt to drive through floodwaters.

Council says updates will be provided throughout the day if further closures occur or when roads are reopened.
