The NU reason your freedom might be short lived

Health authorities are worried about a new Covid variant dubbed as the NU variant which has a rather unusual mutation.

The Nu variant has a very unusual number of spike mutation, in fact 32 mutations which could render the current vaccine absolutely useless. They believe the mutation possibly happened in covid patients with HIV/AIDS.

The new variant was originally picked up by Imperial College London virologist Dr Tom Peacock, who shared details on a genome sharing site.

Dr Peacock has since issued some chilling warnings about this new variant over twitter. “very, very much should be monitored due to that horrific spike profile”, and said he expected it “would be worse antigenically than nearly anything else about” – including the lethal Delta variant which has wreaked havoc across the world.

But Dr Peacock also issued a few words hope as well, “It could just be an odd cluster that’s not very transmissible, I hope this is the case.”

The good news the variant has only spread to three countries South Africa, Hong Kong and Botwana November 11th when the variant was first discovered.

The Nu variant hasn’t reached Australia, however, with international borders set to open it could find it’s way here in the next few months.

If Dr Peacock is correct and this new variant is as deadly and contagious as the Delta strain and it does break through current vaccines. You can bet our power mad Premiers will be locking down hard and mandating new vaccines when available.
