A 77-year-old woman has died following a devastating two-vehicle collision in the Hunter Region.
The crash occurred around 7:25pm Saturday on Nelson Bay Road, Salamander Bay. Emergency services rushed to the scene after reports of the collision between a Toyota Rav4 and a Subaru Forester.
The driver of the Rav4 was pronounced dead at the scene. Three passengers – two men aged 78 and 79, and a 76-year-old woman – were treated on-site before being taken to John Hunter Hospital in stable condition. The Subaru’s 66-year-old driver and 60-year-old passenger were also hospitalised, both stable.
Port Hunter Stephens Police have established a crime scene, with the Crash Investigation Unit conducting a forensic examination. A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
Police are appealing for anyone with dashcam footage or information to come forward via Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
