A man and woman have been charged after an alleged police pursuit ended in a two-vehicle crash at Lake Macquarie on Tuesday morning.

Police say officers attached to Newcastle City Police District attempted to stop a sedan on Glebe Road at Hamilton South about 9.45am. The driver allegedly failed to stop, sparking a pursuit through several suburbs of Newcastle and Lake Macquarie.

The pursuit was terminated on Macquarie Road near Munibung Road at Cardiff due to safety concerns.

A short time later, emergency services were called to Macquarie Road at Warners Bay following reports of a crash involving the sedan and a motorcycle.

The 28-year-old motorcycle rider was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics for minor injuries before being taken to Belmont Hospital for further assessment.

Police allege the occupants of the sedan fled the scene after the collision. The vehicle was later found abandoned on Gradburn Parade at Jewells, with officers told the pair had been picked up by a white utility shortly afterwards.

Following inquiries, police arrested a 22-year-old man and a 40-year-old woman in the utility on the Inner-City Bypass at Gateshead. Both were taken to Belmont Police Station.

During a search of the woman, officers allegedly seized about three grams of methamphetamine. Police also allegedly located several mobile phones and a laptop suspected of being stolen during a search of the abandoned sedan.

The 22-year-old man has been charged with seven offences, including police pursuit, dangerous driving, driving while disqualified, failing to stop and assist after a crash causing injury, using unauthorised number plates, intimidating police and resisting police.

The 40-year-old woman has been charged with break and enter and steal, along with possessing a prohibited drug.

Both were refused bail and are due to appear before Bail Division Court 2 on Wednesday.

Editor’s note: NSW Police media states the court appearance is scheduled for Wednesday 1 July 2027, however this appears to be a typographical error, with the expected date being Wednesday 1 July 2026.
