The eagerly anticipated Vineyard Job Shuttle Bus Program in Cessnock, set to aid locals in commuting to and from work in Wine Country, has been abruptly canceled before its commencement. CR Daniel Watton, One of the driving forces behind the initiative, expressed dismay over what he perceives as a significant bureaucratic overreach.
The initiative, initially approved with unanimous support in April 2022, aimed to facilitate transportation for workers in the region. However, recent developments reveal that the program will not proceed. Transport For NSW cited an unexpected rationale in a memo, stating that the vehicles allocated for the program are intended for social outcomes, not employment outcomes.
CR Watton, baffled by this decision, questions the logic behind redirecting the allocated funds. According to reports, the Council is seeking a ‘funding deed variation’ to transfer the $150k designated for the Job Shuttle Program to the Branxton Town Upgrade Project.
Expressing frustration, Watton highlighted the discrepancy between political rhetoric emphasizing job creation and the missed opportunity to support local businesses and workers. In response to this setback, Watton has reached out to Clayton Barr seeking clarification from Transport For NSW. He encourages concerned citizens to follow suit and voice their apprehensions regarding this unexpected turn of events.
