Car Crash in Wallsend: Power Outage and Road Closure
At approximately 10:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 16, 2024, emergency services were dispatched to Tillie Street in Wallsend following multiple reports of a motor vehicle accident.
Upon arrival, Wallsend Fire and Rescue crews discovered a Blue Subaru Station Wagon with significant damage after it had collided with a telegraph pole. The impact left the pole irreparably damaged, necessitating its replacement.
Ausgrid technicians quickly arrived on the scene and commenced the replacement of the telegraph pole. This operation resulted in the closure of sections of Tillie Street and a power outage for nearby residents lasting over six hours.
Newcastle City Police District officers attended the scene and conducted a roadside test on the driver, which returned negative results for any impairments. The driver was assessed by NSW Ambulance personnel but did not require hospital transport.
