Drivers are urged to exercise caution after homemade caltrops, or road spikes, were discovered this morning on the Hunter Expressway near Huntlee, between Branxton and Greta, heading toward Singleton. The dangerous devices were found around 5:30 AM, positioned near the roundabout and expressway on-ramp.
One driver reported flattening both left tires after encountering the spikes, though they were fortunate to avoid further damage. Authorities suspect the spikes may have been intentionally placed to disrupt traffic, possibly to facilitate theft or protest against cyclists.
Motorists and cyclists alike are advised to stay alert when traveling in the area. Parents should also warn children who may be riding bikes near or on the road. This situation poses a significant risk to public safety.
