NBN News cuts: 10 Newcastle newsroom staff to lose jobs amid major restructure

Following sweeping reductions to NBN News bulletins, it has been confirmed that 10 staff members in the Newcastle newsroom will lose their positions, including five journalists, one presenter, and four camera operators.

The changes come as part of a broader overhaul of the network’s regional news operations, which has already seen significant cuts to local programming.

Tim Crakanthorp MP described the development as “terrible news for regional journalism” and said his thoughts were with affected staff at NBN.

The restructuring has raised ongoing concerns about the future of local news coverage in the Hunter region, with critics warning of further impacts to regional storytelling and newsroom capacity.
