Some Maitland councillors are willing to put it all on the line just months away from the next council election by reaffirming thier position on the very unpopular garbage policy.
All ALP Councillors (Baker, Aitchison, Meskauskas, Whiting, Ferris) and Liberal Councillors (Ben Mitchell and Kanchan Ranadive) all voted in favor of changing the garbage collection policy, whilst Liberal Councillors (Halliyday, Griffin) and independent councillors (Penfold and Penfold) voted against.
Essentially the changes will see food scraps placed in the green waste to reduce the amount of waste in the red bins (general waste bin) and only collecting the red bins once every 2 weeks and your green bin emptied weekly.
Some household may be eligible to have their red bin emptied weekly for medical reasons or families with young children and people with disabilities who require their bins emptied weekly.
This policy will see a garbage truck run around every street of Maitland every week only emptying every 5th bin, clearly this is just insane.
No community consultation was done before council adopted this radical change to garbage collection and id say this was done by design as this proposal would never pass the pub test.
