Fitness Icon Richard Simmons Passes Away at 76
Richard Simmons, television’s energetic advocate for physical fitness known for his distinctive tank tops and short shorts, has died at the age of 76.
The Los Angeles police and fire departments confirmed that they responded to a residence in Los Angeles where a man was pronounced dead from natural causes on Saturday. While they did not disclose the name, The Associated Press identified Simmons through public records by matching the address and age.
TMZ first reported Simmons’ death, a report which has since been confirmed by other outlets citing unnamed representatives of the fitness guru.
Simmons, who had disclosed a skin condition diagnosis in March 2024, had recently withdrawn from public life, prompting speculation about his health.
Once an overweight teenager weighing 120 kilograms, Simmons shared his weight-loss journey through various platforms, including the Emmy-winning daytime Richard Simmons Show, best-selling books, the Deal-A-Meal diet plan, and his popular exercise videos, such as the Sweatin’ to the Oldies series.
