In a traffic operation conducted last week in the Hunter Valley, police issued more than 70 infringement notices.
On Friday, July 12, 2024, Newcastle-Hunter Highway Patrol, with assistance from Hunter Valley Police District, Northern Region, the Dog Unit, and Police Rescue, targeted anti-social behavior and dangerous driving near the Cessnock area.
The operation resulted in 103 random breath tests (RBTs) and one random drug test (RDT), which allegedly returned a positive result for cannabis. Additionally, 71 infringement notices, 23 defect notices, and two license suspensions were issued for various offences.
Newcastle-Hunter Highway Patrol Acting Inspector Glenn Swift encouraged vehicle enjoyment but warned against unsafe driving practices.
“Reckless driving and dangerous vehicles on our roads will not be tolerated,” A/Insp Swift emphasised. “We will continue to conduct operations aimed at targeting those who endanger public safety.”
Anyone with information about dangerous driving is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 33 000 or Triple-Zero (000) in an emergency.
