Two teenage boys have been arrested following a high-intensity police operation across Newcastle and Lake Macquarie overnight — and it could have ended much worse.
Around 10:50pm, officers on patrol in Gateshead attempted to stop a vehicle when a ute allegedly drove straight at police, swerving at the last second and narrowly avoiding impact.
Moments later, things escalated.
Police will allege the same ute again charged toward officers at speed, forcing them to take action as the situation spiralled into a dangerous pursuit.
🚓 The chase tore through multiple suburbs — Gateshead, Windale, Mount Hutton and Charlestown — before road spikes were deployed on the Newcastle Inner-City Bypass.
The ute was soon found abandoned in Kotara… but the suspects didn’t get far.
🚁🐕 With PolAir overhead and the Dog Unit on the ground, two boys were tracked down and arrested hiding in a backyard on Grinsell Street.
Police allege the vehicle had been stolen days earlier from Valentine.
During a sweep of the area, officers uncovered a chilling haul:
🔪 Knives
🎭 Balaclavas
🧤 Gloves
