A 19-year-old woman was left terrified after allegedly being threatened with a firearm during a disturbing incident that triggered a major police investigation in Newcastle’s north.

Police say the ordeal unfolded earlier this month when a 32-year-old man allegedly turned a weapon on the young woman, known to him, sparking immediate concerns for her safety.

Following urgent inquiries, officers from the Newcastle City Police District, backed by the Tactical Operations Unit, Police Negotiators and Traffic and Highway Patrol, executed a dramatic early-morning search warrant around 9am today (Friday 10 April 2026) at a home on Parkhill Parade, Waratah West.

What they allegedly uncovered inside has shocked investigators.

During the search, police seized a loaded spear gun, an extendable baton, four gel blasters, a rifle, firearm parts, and a quantity of ammunition. Officers also located and confiscated an allegedly stolen vehicle at the property.

The 32-year-old man was arrested at the scene and taken to Waratah Police Station.

He has since been charged with a string of serious offences, including multiple counts of possessing unauthorised firearms, possessing prohibited weapons without a permit, possessing ammunition without authorisation, armed with intent to commit an indictable offence, and receiving stolen property.

Police refused bail, and the man is due to appear before Bail Division Court 2 tomorrow (Saturday 11 April 2026).
