Man Charged Following Alleged Domestic Violence Incident in Cessnock
A man is set to face court after being charged over a series of alleged domestic violence-related offences in Cessnock.
Police from the Hunter Valley Police District began investigating after reports of an incident at a unit on North Avenue about 2.30am on Sunday, 12 April 2026.
Authorities were told a man, known to the female occupant, allegedly forced entry into the home and threatened her with an object believed to be a firearm. It is further alleged the man assaulted the woman and made threats to kill her before leaving the scene a short time later.
Following inquiries by detectives, with assistance from Tactical Police and specialist negotiators, officers arrested a 34-year-old man at a North Avenue unit about 4.30pm on Monday.
He was taken to NSW Police Force custody at Cessnock Police Station, where he was charged with multiple offences, including breaching an Apprehended Violence Order (AVO), using a carriage service to menace or harass, specially aggravated break and enter while armed, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm in a domestic violence context.
The man was refused bail and is due to appear before Bail Division – Court 2 on Tuesday, 14 April 2026.
