Man Identified After Arrest Over Alleged Domestic Violence Incident in Cessnock

A man arrested following an alleged domestic violence incident in Cessnock has now been identified.

Police allege the incident occurred about 2.30am on Sunday, 12 April 2026, at a unit on North Avenue, where a woman was allegedly assaulted and threatened by a man known to her, who was believed to be armed at the time.

Following investigations by officers from the Hunter Valley Police District, with assistance from specialist police units, a 34-year-old man was arrested on Monday afternoon.

He has now been identified as Simon David Mumford, who has been charged with four offences:

  • Contravene prohibition/restriction in an AVO (Domestic)
  • Use carriage service to menace/harass/offend
  • Specially aggravated enter dwelling with intent while armed with a dangerous weapon
  • Assault occasioning actual bodily harm (domestic violence-related)

Mumford was refused bail and is set to appear before court today (Tuesday, 14 April 2026).

Police investigations into the incident remain ongoing.

All charges are allegations, and the accused is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
