Kurri Kurri Netball Facility Officially Opens
The new Molly Worthington Netball Facility in Kurri Kurri has officially opened, marking a major boost for local sport in the Cessnock region.
The opening was attended on behalf of NSW Minister for Sport Steve Kamper by Clayton Barr MP, alongside Dan Repacholi MP, Meryl Swanson MP, and Cessnock Mayor Daniel Watton.
The upgraded precinct delivers 12 new netball courts featuring Plexipave surfaces and floodlighting, a multipurpose half court, two new car parks, and expanded parking areas around the facility. The development also includes landscaping, park furniture, and a modern amenities building with changerooms, canteen, office space, and bathroom facilities.
The former Kurri Kurri netball courts have been replaced due to limited capacity for future growth, with the new complex designed to support increased participation and community use.
Funding for the project was shared across all levels of government, including $1.898 million from the NSW Government through the Level Playing Field Program, $7.5 million from the Australian Government under the Priority Community Infrastructure Program, and $1.78 million from Cessnock City Council.
Local officials have welcomed the facility as a major long-term asset for Kurri Kurri and surrounding communities, with hopes it will strengthen grassroots sport and provide improved opportunities for players of all ages.
