A man has been airlifted to hospital following a serious trail bike accident in the New South Wales Mid North Coast region on Saturday.
Emergency services were called to Cells River, near Nowendoc, west of Port Macquarie, about 11am on 2 May after reports of a trail bike crash.
The Westpac Rescue Helicopter was tasked by NSW Ambulance to assist, highlighting the severity of the incident in the remote area.
A man in his 60s was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics for multiple injuries before being transported by road to Nowendoc to meet the helicopter’s critical care medical team.
He was further treated and stabilised before being airlifted to John Hunter Hospital in Newcastle for urgent specialist treatment.
The extent of the man’s injuries has not been disclosed.
The incident adds to ongoing concerns around trail bike safety and emergency response times in regional and remote parts of NSW.
