Four men have been seriously injured after a vehicle burst into flames following a crash in Newcastle’s west overnight.
Just after 11.15pm on Saturday, emergency services were called to the intersection of Maitland Road and Ingall Street, Mayfield, where a car had struck a telegraph pole and caught fire.
Bystanders managed to pull two occupants – aged 24 and 19 – from the burning wreck. Firefighters later rescued two more men, including a 20-year-old and another whose identity has not yet been confirmed.
All four were rushed to John Hunter Hospital. The 24- and 19-year-old remain in a serious but stable condition, while the other two men are in a critical condition with severe burns.
Police established a crime scene, with the Crash Investigation Unit examining the circumstances of the collision.
