Two Men Arrested for Property Offences in Huntlee and North Rothbury
After an extensive investigation, with assistance from the Huntlee Shopping Centre security and management team, police have arrested two men from North Rothbury, aged 19 and 20, in connection with several property and graffiti offences.
The investigation began on 24/06/24 when police were called to a shop in Huntlee that had been broken into overnight, with various items reported stolen. On 13/07/24, police were alerted to extensive damage at a North Rothbury Retirement Village, where graffiti and discharged fire extinguishers caused significant destruction. The following day, on 14/07/24, police received reports of several shops, premises, and walls at the Huntlee Shopping Centre being tagged with graffiti, resulting in thousands of dollars in damage. The incidents continued on 07/08/24, with another shop break-in at Huntlee.
On 20/08/24, Hunter Valley Police District Detectives executed a search warrant at a home in North Rothbury, where the two men were arrested. They were taken to Singleton Police Station and charged.
The 19-year-old was charged with two counts of break and enter, aggravated intentionally marking premises under the Graffiti Control Act, and malicious damage. He was refused bail and is set to appear at Singleton Local Court today, 21/08/24.
The 20-year-old was charged with aggravated intentionally marking premises, malicious damage, and concealing a serious indictable offence. He was granted strict conditional bail and is scheduled to appear at Singleton Local Court on 19/09/24.
