Cessnock to get a temporary Bushfire Recovery Officer

Cessnock City Council welcomed a recent NSW Government announcement that will see a temporary Community Recovery Officer role established for the Cessnock Local Government Area (LGA).

The role will be dedicated to supporting the community following the bush fires that hit the LGA last fire season.

Council’s Local Emergency Management Officer, Justin Fitzpatrick -Barr looks forward to the role joining the team.

“A person dedicated to the recovery process for a 12 month period will see a real difference on the ground. We will look to better understand the effects of the fires and how best to support those impacted. ”

“The Community Recovery Officer will be working directly with the community and drive community outcomes. It’s a critical resource in the aftermath of a disaster which has complex affects from physical damage, to impacting wellbeing or financial stress, particularly for our tourism operators.”

The role is currently being advertised, with applications closing on Thursday 25 June.
