Bus Vigilante Confronts Fare Evaders

Tobias Hudson, the man behind the popular ‘Bus and Trains of Australia’ Facebook page, became a real-life vigilante when he took matters into his own hands to stop a group of fare evaders in their tracks. When multiple passengers boarded a bus in Charlestown NSW without tapping their Opal cards, Tobias noticed something fishy. As the fare evaders casually strolled past the bus driver—who didn’t seem to care—Tobias leaped into action.

He physically blocked the bus doors from closing, creating a standoff on the bus and demanding the police be called immediately. Among the fare evaders was one passenger who stated she just wanted to get home. The police arrived but let the fare dodgers off with just a warning, without even checking if they had paid their fares.

But why is this such a big deal? Fare evasion in New South Wales costs taxpayers a whopping $60 million every year! That’s enough money to fund countless public projects, improve services, and even make transport cheaper for everyone who does the right thing.

Would you have done the same as Tobias? Or do you think the police should have done more? Let’s get this conversation going!
