Car Fire-Bombed in Birmingham Gardens

News Update: Car Fire in Birmingham Gardens Linked to Previous Stranger Danger Incidents

At approximately 10:40 PM on Saturday, August 10, 2024, Wallsend Fire and Rescue responded to reports of a vehicle fire on Sandgate Road in Birmingham Gardens. Upon arrival, crews found a Toyota sedan fully engulfed in flames. Despite their efforts, the vehicle was completely destroyed.

The vehicle was unaccompanied at the time, and the New South Wales Police Force is treating the incident as arson. Authorities are urging anyone with information related to this suspicious vehicle fire to contact the Newcastle City Police District or Crime Stoppers at 1800 333 000, or through the online reporting page at www.police.nsw.gov.au.

This incident comes after a series of related events involving a suspicious vehicle in the Belmont area. The car involved in the fire matches the description of a vehicle that was allegedly used in a recent “stranger danger” incident reported by Belmont Public School. The car, described as primarily white or silver with possible company signage, was reported to have attempted to lure a student and was later found with smashed windows.

Belmont Public School had previously issued warnings to parents and students about the importance of staying vigilant and aware of stranger danger. The school is reinforcing these messages in light of the recent developments.

The investigation into both the vehicle fire and the earlier “stranger danger” incidents is ongoing. Authorities are encouraging the community to remain alert and report any suspicious activity to local police.
