17 Thousand people in the direct path of Cyclone Damien

Cyclone Damien has officially formed of the coast of Wa and computer models put the coastal town of Karratha in it’s direct path. Cyclone damien is expected to make land fall Saturday afternoon bringing damaging winds of up to 200km per hour as the cyclone intensify and could dump between 200 to 600 mm of rain.

The coastal town of Karratha has a population of almost 17,000 people.

Whilst computer models say Karratha will take a direct hit it may change and authorities have issued blue alert for the system is currently in place for people from Port Headland to Mardie, including Whim Creek, Point Samson, Wickham, Roebourne, Karratha, Dampier and Pannawonica.

People in the alert area have been advised to prepare for cyclonic weather by organising an emergency kit including first aid supplies, a torch, portable radio, spare batteries, food and water.
