NSW Police Lose 100 Bulletproof Vests: Audit Reveals Management Deficiencies

The NSW Police Force (NSWPF) has lost track of 100 bulletproof vests, according to a recent audit conducted by the Asset Management Unit. The vests, procured in 2012 and distributed across the state, were found to be unaccounted for during a 2022 state-wide reconciliation requested by the Deputy Commissioner, Corporate Services.

The audit identified several deficiencies in the management of these ballistic vests. As a result, the NSWPF has tasked the Asset Management Unit with reviewing and updating the management processes for all ballistic vests, a responsibility now overseen by the NSWPF Armoury.

The findings of the audit were shared with the Law Enforcement Conduct Commission (LECC), which expressed satisfaction with the measures and strategies implemented by the NSWPF to address the issue.

This incident highlights concerns over equipment management within the force and has prompted a thorough review to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
