5 injured in horror bus crash

5 people have been injured in a horror bus crash in the Hunter Region in the early hours of the morning.

Around 3.45am emergency crews responded to reports of people trapped under a bus that had crashed into a drain on Wommara Place, Belmont North

Two of the 7 people on board were ejected from the bus on impact and seriously injured.

This is second serious bus crash in the Hunter in 7 days.

The bus driver, a 61-year-old man, was taken to hospital where he underwent mandatory testing.

A crime scene has been established with specialists from the Crash Investigation Unit attending to examine the scene.

Officers from Lake Macquarie Police District have commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash.
