A woman has died, and a second woman was injured following a single-vehicle crash

A woman has died, and a second woman was injured following a single-vehicle crash in the state’s Hunter region today.

Just after 11am (Sunday 17 January 2021), emergency services were called to Allyn River Road, Upper Allyn, about 50km east of Muswellbrook, after reports a Toyota Landcruiser had rolled down an embankment and crashed into Allyn River.

Witnesses climbed down the embankment and freed the female passenger from the vehicle, before commencing CPR.

NSW Ambulance paramedics arrived a short time later and continued treating the woman, but she died at the scene. She is yet to be formally identified.

The driver – an 18-year-old woman – was able to free herself from the vehicle after the crash. She was winched from the river area and airlifted to John Hunter Hospital in a stable condition.

Officers from Port Stephens Hunter Police District established a crime scene.

An investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash is ongoing and a report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
