Australian international border reopening plans suspended, amid Omicron Variant

The Morrison government will suspend the re-opening of Australia’s international borders on December 1 due to global concerns over the spread of the new Omicron variant.

Australia’s international borders will remain closed beyond December 1 after the National Security Committee decided to suspend the reopening plan.

The decision based on advice from the Chief Medical Officer of Health, Professor Paul Kelly, will close the border to cohorts of skilled workers and foreign students. humanitarian persons, holidaymakers and holders of temporary family visas until 15 December.

The border was also scheduled to open to travellers from Japan and Korea on December 1, but will also be suspended until December 15.

Fully immunized Australian residents and their immediate family and fully immunized New Zealand travelers will be exempt.
