Emergency services have launched a multi-agency search operation at Newcastle’s breakwall amid concerns that someone may have been swept into the ocean.
The operation began earlier today after a report that a person may have been washed off the breakwall, which is known for rough surf and large waves, particularly during periods of high swell.
NSW Police, Marine Rescue, paramedics, and rescue helicopters are all involved in the search. At this stage, no further details have been confirmed regarding the identity of the person or the circumstances of the incident.
Authorities have not yet confirmed if a person has been located or if there were any witnesses to the incident. Police are urging anyone who was in the area and may have seen something to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
