In a major breakthrough, a 34-year-old man from Lake Macquarie has been apprehended by detectives from the Sex Crime Squad in connection with the alleged sexual assault of a 90-year-old woman at a Bateau Bay aged care facility on the Central Coast. The arrest comes after an extensive investigation under Strike Force Easterbrook.
Following the execution of a search warrant at an address in The Entrance on November 17, 2023, which led to the seizure of electronic devices, sim cards, and relevant clothing, the suspect attempted to flee from police. Collaborative efforts from multiple police units, including Tuggerah Lakes Police District, Lake Macquarie Police District, Regional Enforcement Squad, and Police Transport Command, resulted in his arrest at a residence in Caves Beach on November 21, 2023.
The 34-year-old man, who sustained minor injuries to his arm during the apprehension, has been charged with several offenses, including aggravated break & enter, commit serious indictable offense, use violence, inflict bodily harm with intent to have sexual intercourse, aggravated sexual assault – break and enter with intent, and aggravated sexual assault – inflict bodily harm. He is scheduled to appear before Belmont Local Court today, November 21, 2023, after being refused bail. The elderly victim, who suffered serious injuries, was initially taken to the hospital for treatment.
