Breaking News: Teen Charged After Allegedly Ramming Police Vehicle in Lake Macquarie
In an early morning incident, a teenager has been apprehended and is set to face court after a police car was reportedly rammed in Lake Macquarie.
The event occurred around 2:30 am on Oxford Street, Gateshead, where a fully marked police vehicle was left unattended. An unidentified vehicle collided with the front offside of the police car, rendering it inoperable, before fleeing the scene without stopping.
Thankfully, no injuries were reported.
Following diligent investigation by the Lake Macquarie Police District Proactive Crime Team, significant progress has been made. At approximately 12:00 pm, a silver Jeep Cherokee 4WD, reported stolen earlier on May 9, 2024, from Salamander Bay, was discovered abandoned in Eino Place, Ellebana. This vehicle is believed to be linked to the collision with the police vehicle.
Shortly after, authorities located and apprehended a 15-year-old boy in Jonathan Street, Ellebana. The teenager has been charged with seven offenses, including larceny, driving a conveyance without consent, and dangerous driving.
The accused has been denied bail and is scheduled to appear before a Children’s Court tomorrow.
